I find myself carrying my camera around less and using my iPhone SE more for taking pictures. My go to apps were the stock camera app, Pro Camera, Pro HDR X and 645 Pro. Recently, I found out about a new camera app called Camera-M and it has won over not only my heart, but a special place on my phone.
What’s so special about Camera-M?
To start, it has professional manual camera controls. You have full control over white balance, from dialing in the Kelvin, to a neutral color picker – just point at a neutral color within a smaller box and click on the check mark.
You also have control of ISO & Exposure, both with Auto, Semi-Auto, and Lock. Confused? Help is always close by to explain how to use the controls. There are also 2 tutorials you can watch on their website.
In Settings you can:
- turn location on or off
- change the file type (RAW, JPG, PNG, or TIFF)
- select self timer amount (2, 5, 10, or 30 seconds)/portrait or landscape/action/burst mode/Live Photo
- show a grid – choose no grid or from 3 other grids
- show a leveler to make sure your photos aren’t at an angle (2 choices or off)
Focus Peaking and Focus Tracking
The final cool feature is focusing. You can select macro or landscape mode, it even has focus peaking and focus tracking, but I haven’t found/played with that yet. Just found it! For focus peaking, press the + icon in a circle, it then brings up a circle on the screen, then you can either slide up or down on the screen until you see a cyan color around your subject, or move the phone forwards or backwards. For focus tracking, tap on the screen while in the focus part of the app.
Below are some screenshots of the app in action (clicking on them will bring up a larger photo), and below that are photos I took with the app – I have not processed them in any way, I just lowered the size of the photos and added my signature/watermark.
Photos Taken With Camera-M
I’m still learning all the things this app can do (as you read above). Last weekend I used it to take photos at Moorpark College while walking one of my dogs around the campus. The first photo was taken at 11:04 and the last was at 11:39 on a sunny day.
So far I’m in love with Camera-M and have deleted all other camera apps that I had previously bought in the App Store. Have you tried Camera-M? Do you plan to try it after reading this post and seeing the photos? I know I can’t wait for the rain to end so I can play with the app some more. Camera-M costs $2.99 in the App Store.
