Back in late April I was complaining about something eating my fortnight lilies before they opened up, and possibly after they were open. Well…today, as I was pulling foxtails in the backyard, I saw something jumping around in the grass. It wasn’t until a little later, as I was walking past my amaryllis plant, that I saw a HUGE grasshopper hugging the lower portion of where the flower had been. It was at least 3 inches long!! I sat down and had a talk with it; I told it that I did not want it eating my flowers…the leaves are/were fair game, but not the flowers. I also told it that I told previous grasshoppers the same thing and they cooperated. It stayed still through my lecture and I sent it lots of love. In return, it let me get really close with my camera/lens and take lots of photos – I even got super close when I added the 16mm extension tube to the 10mm tube. Today’s photo is cropped in a bit from when I only used the 10mm extension tube.

    1. Thank you! The trick with handheld macro’s is that you have to move forwards and backwards, and keep on clicking! Also, in post processing you use clarity and structure. 🙂
